A calculations procedure based on the slip-line method is suggested for estimating the stressed state and static strength of weld joints with nonthrough defects at the fusion boundary of a hard weld and soft basic metal is suggested. The analytical solution of the problem takes into account the defect place, stressed state volume in the concave cross-section and mechanical properties of the weld joint. This underlies determination of admissible defect sizes which do not reduce the weld joint strength in pipes of large diameter. Experimental check showed a satisfactory agreement between the results.
