Shipments of cement by rail, dropped from 32 to 12 million tons from 1950 to 1972, a 62% reduction. Methods for reversing this trend toward shipment by motor truck, based on a survey, are outlined. A successful method, the Flexi-Flo system, which involves a pressure differential transfer between rail car and truck at strategically located rail-highway terminals close to the marketplace, is described.
