A great deal of progress in cable and harness continuity testing has been made in the last 15 years - from color coding to tester interfacing with personal computers. This article briefly reviews this progress, then concentrates on a sophisticated electronic solution, a 4096 point continuity tester that can run: cable and harness tests, backplane tests, bare printed circuit board tests, and be an assembly aid for cable/harness and backplanes. Such a unit can also be linked to an IBM PC/AT/XT, giving such capabilities as color graphics display, assembly note instructions display, and others.
