ROLL JOURNAL CRACK DETECTION.

Early detection of fatigue, corrosion, and stress cracking on pulp and paper machine roll journals has resulted in both reduced downtime and major repairs for Ontario mills. Major failures have occurred in press rolls, felt rolls, wire return rolls, and dryer roll journals. Using modern non-destructive test methods it is possible to locate cracking in the early stages, thereby enabling mills to repair or replace defective journals before major failures occur.
