Clariant has shut down its new Mount Holly, N.C., plant for the bleach activator sodium nonanoyloxybenzenesulfonate (NOBS) because of technical difficulties. Clariant says that corrosion in the plant adversely affected the product quality. The intensive testing of the plant has demonstrated that the required specific cations cannot be achived in time.
