Particular attention is paid, primarily, to the descriptive data included on the hydrological measuring station's specification sheet. Despite the importance of this information to the evaluation of data drawn from chronological observations, it has not yet been the object of full-scale computerizations. Furthermore, the gathering, inputting, vetting, archiving, up-dating and management of data is described, using examples based on existing hydrometric data banks. With the appearance of new analytical methods and information system designs, data banks established in the near future should contribute to the progressive accumulation of data relative to the different stages of the rain cycle.
