Tricalcium phosphate-zirconia composite ceramics were prepared. Mixtures of beta -tricalcium phosphate and zirconia with 3 or 6 mol% yttria were sintered in air at 1400 degree C. Phases of the beta -tricalcium phosphate and zirconia almost remain unchanged after heating at 1400 degree C. The best material, composed of beta -tricalcium phosphate and 67 wt% zirconia with 6 mol% yttria, has an average bending strength of 199 MPa.
