PERFORMANCE, DESIGN AND METALLURGY OF REFINER PLATES FOR TMP.

In the reported experiments, the factors controlling refiner plate life and the ability of plate patterns to promote increased motor loads were investigated both experimentally and analytically. Using a commercial TMP line, various plate patterns produced from different metal alloys were evaluated. Hardness and uniformity of grain size along with optimum bar top to dam top distance contributed to good plate life in the primary refiner. In the secondary refiner it was demonstrated analytically and experimentally that the plate pattern must allow adequate cross-sectional area for the steam generated in the refining zone. 13 refs.
