Advantages of Magox Sugar Grade magnesium oxide, compared with lime, as a neutralizer for cane sugar juices are absence of scale production and higher neutralization capability. The performance cost is the final determinint factor in the choice of a liming agent. Since the magnesium oxide is 85% more effective than lime, its delivered cost can be higher than that of lime and the use of the product can still be profitable. In veiw of the advantages in increased efficiency and fewer operating problems experienced by many installations, all sugar mills should at least investigate the use of magnesium oxide for neutralization of can sugar juices.
