Calcium Arsenates as a Form of Arsenic-Containing Waste Products.

The existence in the Ca//2As//2O//7-CaO system of two intermediate compounds with the compositions Ca//3As//2O//8 and Ca//4As//2O//9, which melt incongruently at 1500 and 1550 degree C, respectively, is demonstrated. A study is made of the solubility of the individual components of the Ca//2As//2O//7-CaO system and mixtures of them in water. It is shown that the solubility of calcium arsenate with the composition Ca//4As//2O//9 is low (0. 03 mg As per liter), and this suggests a possiblity of using it for the binding and safe storage of arsenic-containing wastes from nonferrous metallurgical plants.
