A digital computer traffic control system

Operation of a small system of interconnected traffic signals controlled from a centrally located digital computer in Baltimore County, Md. The central processing unit for the system is an IBM Model 1800 Direct Process Controller. As integral parts of this central system, an IBM Intermediate Speed Printer, an automatic typewriter and card reader and punch were also used. Te signals were connected to the control center by direct telephone wire connections. A small display panel was installed at the control center to indicate the condition of the signals at each intersection.
