Formation kinetics and strength of thermoplastic-metal adhesive joints

The dependence of adhesive strength on temperature and duration of joint formation controlled by thermal fluctuation processes was studied theoretically and experimentally for a P-54 resin-steel pair. The polymer-metal systems were described by inequalities and by Markov's approximation. A thermostatically controlled device for ensuring the required temperature-time conditions was constructed. It was found that the strength of the polyamide coatings increased with the temperature increase of the specimens in coating formation, the time required to reach the maximum strength shortens, and strength decreases with decreasing temperature. However, if holding time is sufficiently long, the specimens produced at the low temperatures are stronger than specimens with longer heating times.
