摘要:
World economic activity was strong during the first half of the year 2000, with the boom led by the still vigorous United States economy. Growth continued to be good in Europe, while Japan maintained slow recovery. The demand for all metals grew in 2000. Steel consumption reached 770 million tonnes, the highest level ever. The demand for zinc and copper grew by 5 per cent. Metal prices strengthened during the first half of the year owing to good demand, but began to slide in the latter part with the deteriorating economic climate.
