SCALE MODEL INVESTIGATION OF THE CIRCULATION IN RESERVOIRS.

The paper describes an experimental investigation of water circulation in two reservoirs. Extensive experiments were conducted for various operating conditions. Models at three different horizontal scales, with various vertical scales, were used, with single and twin inlet nozzles of different sizes and locations. Several methods were used to study the circulation patterns and the degree of mixing in the model reservoirs; detailed experiments were carried out to assess the effect of vertical exaggeration on the circulation produced by the single and twin nozzles. Scale effects were also investigated. In the field, measurements were made of winds and wind-generated currents in the surface of the reservoirs.
