There is great demand for design criteria particularly for the lightweight floor construction. In view of this, the author has investigated experimentally the dynamic response of different lightweight floors. Both laboratory and field tests have been carried out. Also studied were different methods for adding damping to a floor and the effects of cross-bridging. In parallel with the dynamic analyses, survey was carried out in which the different types of floors were classified in order of comfort/discomfort compared with the floors in their homes. Parallel to the analysis, the author is also looking at theoretical calculation methods to see if it is possible to predict the results have obtained by measuring the dynamic properties.
