摘要：
The author reviews the current knowledge regarding the selection of powered supports for longwall mining of coal, once the necessary analyses had been made and the decision on capital commitment reached. Operational characteristics of powered supports are discussed, as well as the problems affecting the efficiency of these supports. Adaptability of powered supports to coal winning machines is also considered.
