In March 1985, A-P announced the $150-million modernization program at Kenogami to allow production of value added paper grades. The focus of the project was a complete rebuild of PM-7 which would become the chosen machine for web sized offset paper (WSOP). Once PM-7's modernization was complete, the mill conducted exhaustive testing to ensure the product was up to snuff. The tests began in December 1987, and included commercial pressroom trials.
