摘要
Complex workpieces ground from tough materials can be produced with unusual efficiency with today's plunge form abrasive machining systems. In this particular type of grinding, a formed wheel is used to generate all external dimensions of a cylindrical part in one plunge. Machining time can be reduced by up to 25% or more over that required with turning. The efficiency of the wheel is used to shape the part to finished size without burrs and with a low microfinish. Radii, undercuts, tapers, grooves, chamfers, and diameters can be produced in any combination. The process is now used extensively as a highly efficient method of producing parts in quantity with medium scale accuracies. Tolerances of 0. 0002 double prime (0. 005 mm) on diameter and 0. 0005 double prime (0. 013 mm) on length are typical.
