Factors affecting the porosity of MIG and TIG welds in structural aluminum alloys are discussed in detail. They include the solidification interval, gases, the arc, different protective gases, weld additives, welding techniques, the welding equipment, and preheating. Methods to avoid porosity are indicated. Illustrations.
