An analog circuit is described for use in controlling the current in a laser diode used in an electrophotographic printing system. A control loop allows the current through the laser to be calibrated and continuously monitored and corrected every scan line. A current source laser driver allows the control loop to be used with many different lasers which have different lasing characteristics. The circuit also gives good laser protection from power supply transients.
