Mechanization in agriculture has been growing very fast since the beginning of the century. Today, microelectronic and data processing techniques allow one to overcome obstacles due to the nature of farming. After a survey of the obstacles and of the particular nature of sensorial problems connected with the agricultural environment, a classification of agricultural robots is made and illustrated with examples of machinery in the course of development.
