Keeping the machines producing - efficiently - is the goal of industry. How is productivity defined? How is productivity measured? Is the machine fully utilized? This paper discusses a procedure for reporting and evaluating machine tool use. Techniques of machine and support function evaluation are also described here. These can be helpful in locating problems and reducing delays. They may aid in a wide range of activities, such as production planning, maintenance, financial analysis, etc. Evaluation and corrective actions can result in more efficient use of machine tools.
