On the General Concept of Stability and the Theory of Stability of Shells.

The concepts of different non-linear problems of elasticity are classified using simple beams as examples and it is shown which of these deal with stability problems. The types of instability are characterized in this context. In the second part, the general equations for the stability of shells are derived for the determination of critical loads. Finally, the validity of the theory and the assumptions are discussed.
