POLAROGRAPHIC STUDIES ON THE COMPLEXES OF CADMIUM, ZINC AND MANGANESE WITH 3-INDOLEACETATE IONS.

The interaction of cadmium(II) zinc(II) and manganese(II) with 3-indoleacetate ions has been studied polarographically at mu equals 0. 5 M (NaClO//4) at 25 plus or minus 0. 1 degree C. These metal ions undergo diffusion-controlled two-electron reduction but the process is reversible in the case of cadmium, and quasi-reversible for zinc and manganese. The values of stability constants of the two complexes in each case have been determined using D. D. DeFord and D. N. Hume, and/or P. J. Gellings methods. Percentage distribution of these metals in varioius forms as a function of ligand concentration has also been studied.
