Methods for the Computer-Aided Optimization of Integration MIS Circuits.

The iterative optimization of integrated MIS circuits by mathematical means is based on the evaluation of certain functions that can be determined only by the implicit system of differential equations which was set up for the purpose of modeling the network. Therefore, the optimization task can be considered merely as an improvement of prescribed specifications, but never as a search for a local or global minimum. Taking this under consideration, it is shown that, from the class of regular optimization techniques, simple and direct search and gradient strategies are suitable that lead to a fast improvement in the evaluation of functions.
