This paper deals with the possibility of dephosphorizing and reusing the phosphorous-containing slag formed during the LD basic oxygen steelmaking process. In this connection, results are presented from tests carried out with various mixtures of slag formers in a carbon crucible, tests on 30-kg pig iron melts in an open medium-frequency induction furnace with basic additives, and tests in which slag formers were added once at the start of the tests to achieve a 65-74% degree of dephosphorization with simultaneous 70-92% desulfurization.
