Notched Bar Tensile Strength Determinations on Round Bar Specimens of Pure Weld Metal Deposited from Coated Stick Electrodes and Acoustic Measurements During Static Stressing.

The relation between notched bar tensile strength and notch radius (0. 1 to 100 mm) was determined on the deposits from four electrodes with different coatings. The effect of grain size was taken into consideration by different heat treatment (600 C, 2 hr, furnace vs 1100 C, 3 hr, furnace). Sound emission analyses were performed to detect possible crack formation during the stressing of the tensile specimens. In accord with micrography, no cracks were found. It is pointed out that the results do not describe the behavior of welds.
