摘要
Super conducting train transformers are an important innovation jump in the area of propulsion technology for future electrical traction units. They make an significant contribution to comply better to the request of operators for a powerful, lightweight, low-energy, environment-friendly and efficient train. Using this new technology compact units can not only be produced up to 45% lighter, but also the degree of effectiveness of the high temperature-super conducting transformer with more than 99% is substantially better than conventional transformers. In this article the results of development so far are introduced including the service trial of 1-MVA-Demonstrators. Comparisons with conventional transformers for regional trains, high speed traffic and locomotives are carried out as well as considerations about operating applications.
