Formulas for Calculating the Emission Level of CO2 and H2O Gas Radiation in Industrial Furnaces, Combustion Chambers and Heat Exchangers.

The emission levels of carbon dioxide and water vapor are usually determined with the aid of graphs. In individual cases equations are also known to have been used which describe such graphs. This paper reports on the accuracy and range of validity of the equations. New approximation equations are given which are suitable not so much for calculation by hand as for calculation using a programmable pocket calculator or a computer. The yardstick taken for the approximation accuracy of the equations was visual agreement with the graphs as given, for example, in the VDI thermal atlas. The range of validity of the equations given is thus restricted to the range given by the graphs.
