摘要
In an investigation of the effect of heat treatment on tribological properties of carbon steels, it has been decided to study the effect of the rate of cooling in hardening operations on the frictional behavior of steels. Various quenching techniques were investigated and relevant frictional resistance was determined. Dry and lubricated contacts were tested under different conditions of load, and also under combined rolling and sliding. Results indicate that surface hardness as influenced by quenching process with load, speed and lubricated conditions as parameters, is a prime factor in assessing the frictional behavior and higher hardness values rendering lower values for the coefficient of friction.
