Some considerations about MC refining

This paper focuses on the particularities of the medium consistency refining and its effects on the paper properties. Experiments performed on a pilot scale refiner have proved that a medium consistency refining generates pulps having higher strength characteristics than a conventional low consistency refining. In the same time, as a result of an increased axial microcompression undergone by fibres, a medium consistency refining develops higher paper stretch than low consistency ones.
