摘要
An application of the technique known as 'compocasting' is presented. This technique shows promise of producing metal matrix composites less expensively than the presently used powder metallurgy methods. In this study, SiC platelets and particles of various grades, as well as SiC whiskers, TiB//2 particles, and Al//2O//3 fibers were added to Al-Mg alloys to produce composite castings. The reduction of silica and dissolution of silicon into the matrix were observed in one grade of SiC, and its effect on wetting was investigated.
