The methodological approach of A. M. Bukrinskii et al is used to explain the mechanism of instability of the process of bubble condensation of steam in emergency localization systems at nuclear power stations. The method is based on the analysis of the static hydraulic characteristics of a suppression system in the basis of which the boundary region of aperiodic instability is established. The solution of this problem is important in designing pressure-suppression systems. The method is checked in a series of experiments on a full-scale steam condensation pipe of an emergency localization system. It is concluded that a stabilizing factor is the increase in hydraulic resistance of the pipe; therefore in containments with pressure suppression systems at nuclear power stations use of low pool water levels and a higher-hydraulic resistance at the outlet of a steam condensation pipe is recommended.
