Spin fluctuations in La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 probed by 57Fe and 119Sn Mossbauer spectroscopy

Spin fluctuations in two samples of the La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 system doped with 1% 57Fe and 5% Sn were studied by Mossbauer spectroscopy. Fe substitutes for Mn3+ and Sn for Mn4+. A charge redistribution occurs between 4.2 K and Tc. The charge carrier concentration defines magnetic regions with different coupling constants which fluctuate with relaxation rates increasing exponentially with temperature. At approx. 0.9Tc both probes reveal charge localization which spreads fast in the Mn3+/Mn4+ lattice as the temperature approaches Tc.
