For a number of years Platarg has supplied transfer presses for the manufacture of cans for alkaline batteries which have been replacing zinc-carbon batteries. The choice of press depends on the number of draw reductions and the type of 'pip' form (contact end) required, generally 9-11 stages. The advantage of a multiple cam/ram design is that by adjusting the lifter arms up or down, one could ensure that the shorter shells (in the initial draw stages) and the deeper shells (in the final draw stages) lifted up and reached the die bed level, at the same time remaining on the punches.
