This paper reviews pyrometallurgical processes for the production of copper, lead, and zinc. The review outlines sulfur emission sources and alternate processing techniques, including oxygen enrichment and continuous and flash smelting. Alternate control systems, including sulfuric acid, liquid SO//2, elemental sulfur, and weak gas scrubbing processes are described from operational and economic standpoints.
