The economy of South Africa in respect to the mineral wealth is discussed. South Africa boasts of world's largest reserves of gold, manganese, chromium, platinum group metals, vanadanium and alumino-silicates. It is observed that the South African economy is small in relation to the US, UK, Germany and Japan and accounts for only 0.5% of the global GDP. The Gauteng Province accounts for 37% of the country's GDP. South African's macro economic policies have pushed privatization, free trade and the creation of a favourable investment environment in the country.
