Marine corrosion tests of electroplates for ship instruments. vi. protective and decorative properties and service life of chrome-plated steel

The protective and decorative properties of chromium electroplates on steel 10 - matte (24 and 36μm thick), hard (common, 48 and 60 μm and phosphated, 9 and 18 μm, including those treated with a hydrophobizing liquid) - were tested in containers, which simulate the instrumental cases of water-tight and splash-proof types. Outdoor tests were carried out for 14-20 years on the sea-coast in three zones with cold (Murmansk), temperate humid (Vladivostok), and warm humid (Batumi) climatic conditions. Protective properties of the electroplates were assessed visually in relative classes and by weighing; their appearance was estimated visually in relative classes. The service life of electroplates in ship instruments was specified.
