VALVE TIMING AND ITS EFFECT ON THE PERFORMANCE OF MEDIUM-SPEED DIESEL ENGINES.

The field of application for medium-speed diesel engines is very broad and diversified. Due to the different operating conditions, these engines are subject to variegated requirements. The performance of engines is largely determined by valve timing. Since for reasons of economy, an optimum valve timing cannot reasonably be chosen specifically for each application and mode of operation, compromise solutions will have to be found. Various computations and engine tests yielding an adequate valve timing are elucidated by way of examples.
