Noise feature of cavitation flows on axisymmetric bodies and transient characteristics of cavity interface

Cavitation reveals miscellaneous patterns of flow and interface in different stages of its development, which are strongly correlated with cavitation noise. By the noise detection and flow pattern observation carried out on the axisymmetric bodies with hemispherical and 45-degree conical headforms, the features of cavitation noise in different stages were analyzed with the concept of total acoustic level. They were compared with the high-speed cinegraphically-recorded patterns of cavity interface correspondingly The results show that the evolution of interface pattern will bring about a certain trend variation in total acoustic level of cavitation noise. The transient characteristics of axisymmetric cavitation flow is conclusively discussed with reference to two-dimensional status.
