In 5 one-half -minutes, floor-to-floor time, a new electrical-discharge machine trepans 31 holes in a hollow aluminum extrusion for an autp-bumper reinforcement. As compared with milling, the process is faster and eliminates five separate operations: two piercing and two milling stages, plus a drilling operation.
