Problems of optimization of truss, beam, and membrane type structures of work hardening elastoplastic materials in static loading are studied. The optimum conditions are obtained and analyzed on the basis of variation principles. It is shown that these conditions determine the equal strength of structures. © 1995 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
