The response of a shallow subsurface anomaly to an SH wave with source on the surface is computed by using a two dimensional finite element technique. The effects of depth and relative material composition of the anomaly can be identified in the power spectra. The behaviour of the response agrees with principles established from cases where the SH wave is incident from below.
