STUDIES ON THE CRUSHABILITY OF DECOMPOSED GRANITE SOIL GRAINS.

The alteration of the grains of decomposed granite is considered on the results of a simple extension test of weathered rock specimens. Weathering properties of the soil grains are observed by using an electron microscope. On the basis of these methods, the difference between the weathering patterns of quartz and feldspar are explained. The crushability of soil grains which depends on the weathering patterns is examined experimentally and a concept of selective fracture of soil grains is presented.
