The authors studied the possibility of concentrating hypochlorous acid by extracting it from aqueous salt solutions into ethyl methyl ketone (EMK) and investigated the stability of HOC1 solutions in the organic solvent. It can be inferred from the course of the extraction isotherm that hypochlorous acid is associated in the aqueous phase, and the distribution can be described by the Shilov equation. The authors investigations demonstrate the efficiency of EMK as an extractant of hypochlorous acid from aqueous salt solutions, whereby concentrated solutions of HOC1 in an organic solvent can be obtained. At temperatures below 0 degree and in absence of light, hypochlorous acid can be stored for a long time without decomposition.
