This paper is devoted to a study of the electrochemical properties of deep and surface layers of AV000 aluminum which has undergone a preliminary deformation forging with 19 kHz ultrasound. An analysis of the nature of the damage showed that in all cases it was smallest in magnitude and extent on the contact surfaces. Forging at the stress antinode leads to a reduction in the average size of the damage and to a smaller number than with forging at the displacement antinode. The results of the weight-loss experiments are in good agreement with those from the electrode potential measurements. The greatest weight losses (highest chemical activity) occurred with samples upset forged without ultrasound.
