A modified geometry increasing the relative insulating length of NEC tubes has been tested up to 3. 3 MV/m. The measured bremsstrahlungs spectra indicate a sufficient particle suppression which agrees with trajectory calculations. Arc discharge cleaning of the tubes was found to be very helpful.
