摘要
The paper describes the R. V. Southwell plot method of estimating the buckling load of buried flexible pipes by non-destructive means. The method is verified by its application to experimental work carried out by various research workers. The method permits an estimate of a generalized out of roundness and predicts a buckling load. In the application to data of various tests the predicted buckling loads are compared with actual failure loads. The difference between predicted and actual buckling loads is found to be a function of the initial out of roundness of the buried pipe. A method is proposed for the estimation of a safe failure load from the Southwell plot buckling load and the generalized out of roundness.
