Shape of liquid metals jets under a uniform vertical magnetic field (1st report, experimental results for jets issuing from noncircular nozzles and an analysis of film flow)

摘要
The results of an experimental investigation of a jet of mercury emanating from noncircular nozzles in the presence of a uniform vertical magnetic field are presented. When the shape of the jet changes in such a field, a longitudinal, recircular current flow which prevents a shape change is induced. The shapes of the free surface of the jet are measured by a spot electrode probe under various experimental conditions. A simple analytical model predicting the width of the liquid metal film is developed on the basis of a momentum theory.
