SECOND HARMONIC GENERATION IN THIN CONDUCTORS AND SIZE CYCLOTRON RESONANCE.

A theoretical analysis is made of second harmonic generation by reflection of an electromagnetic wave from a conductor plate whose thickness is much greater than the skin depth but much less than the mean free path. This plate is subjected to a magnetic field parallel to its surface. It is shown that the amplitudes of the reflected and transmitted second harmonics may exhibit cyclotron resonance if the doubled frequency of the wave is a multiple of the revolution frequency of electrons whose orbit diameter is equal to the plate thickness. The amplitude of the transmitted second harmonic may exhibit a particularly strong resonance.
